Your tour.

If you want to immerse yourself in the Barossa, there’s nowhere better than the Barossa Farmers Market. Rightly famous for the quality of its produce, a step inside the Market sheds is to step into the Barossa’s unique, living food culture and to be overtaken by the sights, the smells and of course the delicious taste of the Barossa.

Considered a local institution, Saturday morning breakfast and shopping at the Barossa Farmers Market is a stalwart weekly tradition beloved by Barossans and enthusiastically shared with visitors to our region and our Farmers Market Walking Tour takes you along for the ride.

Our Walking Tours introduce you to the producers behind the food - you’ll hear their stories and learn their foodie secrets so that you can take a little of the Barossa good life home with you. There are tastings, stories, insights, recipes, local’s tips and plenty of time to take it all in, along with our recommendations for how to put together a traditional Barossa tasting picnic bursting with the abundance and flavours of our region.

Your host for the morning is Jess, a former Manager of the Barossa Farmers Market and a passionate and curious Barossa local. She’s your connection to the best of the Barossa and will guide you beyond the surface of the Market to the rich stories, cultural traditions and food heritage that lies beneath - when you know where to look! Learn how a conversation on the side of the road led a group of dedicated and passionate locals to form the Barossa Farmers Market and follow the journey from those early days to the bustling and thriving Market that today forms the epicentre of our food culture. Our Tours are entertaining and engaging, and create a lasting connection for our guests to the best of the Barossa’s food culture.

What to expect.

Expect a tasty and entertaining introduction to the best of the Barossa’s food culture!

Expect to be entertained, to learn a few foodie secrets and to feel a sense of genuine connection to the Barossa.

Our Farmers Market Tours start at 8.30am from the front of the Barossa Farmers Market just in front of the Information Booth - look for our blackboard sign. If it’s raining, we’ll be just inside the Market Shed at the Information Booth (if you’re unsure, any Market stallholder will be able to point you in the right direction). Jess will be waiting there to meet you.

Our Tours go for approximately 45 minutes - 1 hour depending on the chat level, and include a variety of tastings of local produce. You’ll meet stallholders and hear their stories of perseverance and triumph, and usually a favourite recipe or insider’s tip.

The Barossa Farmers Market is undercover so our Tours proceed rain, hail or shine - lucky us!

The Tours are suitable for all fitness levels (there are some uneven surfaces inside the Market).

Your Tour includes a high quality calico shopping bag, and our local recommendations for picnic spots, and tips on how to create the ultimate Barossa tasting picnic.

A hearty Market breakfast is available at the conclusion of your Tour and there is espresso coffee available as well, so bring your appetite with you (please note that this is not included in our Tour; it’s an optional extra).
